International Conference on Post-Independence Hindi Literature, 3-5 October 2011

The Department of Languages and  Cultures of South and East Asia of the University  of Ghent, in cooperation with the  Embassy of India in Brussels, organised an International  Conference on Post-Independence Hindi  Literature from 3 to 5 October 2011 at Ghent.  ICCR disbursed a special grant for the Conference. Dr. Karan Singh, President  of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and distinguished philosopher  delivered the keynote address at the conference on the theme "The Many  Facets of Hindi," focusing on modernist poetry. Ambassador H.E. Dr.  Jaimini Bhagwati attended the lecture, as did a sizeable number of academics  and students from universities around Europe. During  the lecture, Dr. Karan Singh announced that the Hindi Chair sponsored by ICCR at  Ghent University would be called the Kamiel  Bulcke Chair of Hindi in future, after the famous Belgian scholar of Hindi. The  address was very well received.
