General Consular Information

Timings for Passport, Visas and all Consular Services:

  • (Monday to Friday except Holidays)

    Receipt of Applications: 9.30 am to 11.30 am

    Delivery of documents: 04.45 pm to 05.15 pm
  • Applications for all Passport/Consular services are accepted between 9.30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at the counter of Embassy of India, 215, Chaussée de Vleurgat, 1050 Brussels.
  • No application is received after 11.30 a.m., except in case of emergencies, such as death or illness in the family.
  • Passports, and other consular services, irrespective of date or time of submission, are delivered only between 4:45 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on working days on the dates given to the applicants.

For all Passport and Consular Services following documents are required:

  • Application form duly signed
  • Required number of photographs
  • Copy of the ‘Residence Card’ / proof along with its original
  • Copy of the passport along with its original
  • Copy of documents to be attested
  • Fee (in cash only)

In addition to the normal passport fee, if the passport information is not available on-line, Euro 32 towards clearance charges will be charged.

Emergency/Tatkal* Service fees for issue of Passports

  • Reissue of passports within 1- 3 days: Euro 180 + normal fees
  • Issue of new passports within 3 - 7 days: Euro 180+ normal fees
  • Issue of new passports within 8 - 14 days: Euro 108+normal fees

* Note: Tatkal service does not apply for applications sent by bag from our Honorary Consulates.

Current delivery schedules for applications received at the Embassy counter and for clear cases only:

  • Reissue of fresh passports: Four to Five weeks (First come first served basis). Time taken is more in case clearance is required from the previous Passport Issuing Authority
  • Extension of validity of (short term validity) passports : Two to three weeks (First come first served basis)
  • Attestation services: one to two days (First come first served basis)
  • PIO cards: one to two weeks
  • OCI cards: six to eight weeks (First come first served)
  • Reissue of duplicate passports: four to five months depending on the case

Passport Instructions

  • Persons of Indian origin who have acquired Foreign citizenship are required to submit declaration of renunciation of Indian citizenship and surrender their Indian Passports to the nearest Indian Mission/Post immediately after acquisition of foreign citizenship. The Indian Citizenship Act does not allow dual citizenship. Holding Indian passport/acquiring Indian passport/travelling on Indian passport after acquisition of foreign citizenship constitutes an offence under the Passport Act and attracts penalties.

    Form for declaration of renunciation of Indian citizenship

  • The passport is a valuable document. It should always be either in the custody of the owner or in the custody of a person duly authorized by the owner. It must not be altered or mutilated in any way. If lost or destroyed, the fact and circumstances should be immediately reported to the nearest Indian Mission and to the local police.
  • It is an offense under the Passports Act 1967 to give false information in the Application. Passport facilities can be denied on grounds of suppression of factual information, submission of false particulars, willful damage of passport and for making unauthorized changes in the passports.
  • Due to the introduction of passport printers, applicants must submit 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm passport size photographs with light backgrounds.
  • Please keep a photocopy of the passport in a safe place. Without a copy, issuance of a duplicate passport in case of loss/damage/theft may be delayed.
  • Please check the expiry date of the passport on receiving it for the first time and remember to get it renewed, well in advance of the expiry date.
  • Passport can be renewed one year prior to expiry.
  • Dual Citizenship / Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) The Constitution of India does not allow holding Indian citizenship and citizenship of a foreign country simultaneously. The Government of India however grants Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI). Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), who migrated from India and acquired citizenship of a foreign country other than Pakistan and Bangladesh, are eligible for a grant of OCI, as long as their home countries allow dual citizenship under local laws.

Incomplete / False Information

Application forms should be filled in fully,accurately (in BLOCK CAPITAL LETTERS) and should be legible. Misrepresentation of the facts may result in the denial of passport/consular service. Applications received with incomplete details could remain unprocessed, causing unnecessary delays.

Fees, once received, shall not be refunded, even if the passport application was withdrawn or if the Consular service could not be rendered for any reason by the Embassy.
