OCI – steps to apply

Kindly note the following:

  • All applicants must ensure that their Indian passports are cancelled.
  • OCI Card applications are accepted only in person.
  • All adults (15 Years and older) applicants are supposed to sign in the front page signature box (Non-signed applications will not be processed).
  • Please send clear photographs, many applications are pending because of poor quality photographs. Photo requirements
  • Please register the applications online before mailing (non-registered applications will not be processed and the applicant will be intimated).
  • Keep a copy of OCI application (also note down the reference number) before sending the online registered forms to the Embassy.
  • Children born outside India and whose parents are Indian passport holders are not eligible for OCI Cards.
  • Please use Internet Explorer for doing Online Registration. Other browsers may have a problem saving the data in the application.
  • Applicants may check about the status of their OCI after 6 weeks only.
  • To collect their OCI cards, applicants have to bring their current valid Passport.

Step 1:
Visit Ministry of Home Affairs, and the OCI section of the Embassy website for information about the OCI.

Step 2:

  • Click “Online Registration” and complete the form (Part A) online.
  • When you have completed filling in Part A, click Save. A Print Window will appear. Click OK to print out your application form consisting of Part A (which has been completed as Online Registration). The blank form of Part B will automatically print itself.
  • Applicant must then complete Part B, preferably TYPED. It may also be handwritten but in CAPITAL LETTERS, with Blue or Black Ink.
  • The completed application form (Parts A and B) must be submitted in duplicate to the Embassy. Applicants must also submit two (2) photographs in color. One original photograph should be affixed to each copy of your application.
  • At the end of Part B is a list of documents that may be required at the time applicant submits the OCI application form. Applicant is urged to send the self-attested copies of the documents and the Belgian passport and PIO card can be sent at the time of collecting OCI card.
  • Application Fee is Euro 236/- per applicant (to be paid in cash at the counter).

    • Notes for PIO Card Holders

  • Holders are required to surrender the PIO Card in order to receive an OCI Card.
  • Holders must submit a notarized copy of the PIO Card with the OCI application (To be checked by Consular Section).
  • Holders are also required to surrender Indian passports in case of those holding valid ones. (The Indian passport will be canceled and returned).

Step 3:
Submit your completed OCI application alongwith the required enclosures and fee in cash on Monday or Friday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at:

Note: Please ensure that self-attested copies of your cancelled Indian Passport, present passport, PIO Card and other supporting documents are submitted.
