Celebrations of the Hindi Day 2015
The Embassy of India in Brussels celebrated the Hindi Day 2015 at its premises on September 14, 2015. Hindi Day is annually celebrated on September 14, the date on which the makers of the Indian Constitution adopted Hindi as the national language of India.
2. The Hindi Day celebrations in Belgium were especially significant this year since Government of India honored a Belgian Hindi expert—Prof. Saartje Verbeke from the Department of Linguistics of the University of Ghent of Belgium—by conferring upon her the prestigious “Vishwa Hindi Samman” for the year 2015. Prof. Verbeke is the first recipient of the award from Belgium in recent times. She received her award at the World Hindi Conference organized by the Government of India at Bhopal in India on September 12, 2015.
3. Ambassador of India to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, H.E. Mr. Manjeev Singh Puri, felicitated Prof. Verbeke at the Hindi Day celebrations at the Embassy and lauded the interest and efforts manifested by Belgians towards learning Hindi. He also encouraged further propagation of Hindi amongst the Belgian populace. Mr. Ashok Kumar Sinha, CEO of Bank of Baroda in Brussels, delivered an inspiring speech on the nuances contained in Hindi, details regarding the origin of its words etc that awed the 75-odd gathered audience.
4. The Embassy had organized Hindi essay writing competitions under several categories not only for officers and officials of the Mission, but also a global online one that saw participation of Hindi experts/enthusiasts from all round the world. Interestingly, a Hindi enthusiast from Indore won the First prize and another from Bangalore won the Third Prize in the global Hindi essay writing competition. Prizes were distributed to the winners at the Hindi Day celebrations at the Embassy.
5. Ambassador Puri also felicitated and thanked all stakeholders of the celebrations of the first International Day of Yoga in Belgium on the occasion.
