Visit of EAM to Australia

External Affairs Minister, Shri S.M. Krishna would be visiting Australia from August 6-10, 2009.

During the visit EAM will participate in the Annual Post Forum Dialogue Meeting (August 7th) of the Pacific Island Forum (PIF), in Cairns. India has been a Dialogue Partner of PIF, comprising of sixteen countries, since 2002 and has attended all its meetings.

After the PIF meeting, EAM will have bilateral interaction with his Australian counterpart, Foreign Minister Stephen Smith on 7th August in Cairns. He will also meet Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

In addition, EAM will visit Sydney (6th August) and Melbourne (9th -10th August), to hear first-hand, about the problems being faced by Indian students and will discuss the matter of their safety and security with the State leadership. EAM will also apprise himself of the measures put in place, in this regard, by the Australian law enforcement agencies. At both places EAM will also meet prominent members of the Indian community and Indian students.

It is expected that EAM’s visit, will further enhance and broaden our bilateral ties.
