Bilateral trade

Belgium is the second largest trading partner of India in the European Union with annual bilateral trade turnover of little over Euro 5.6 billion. In the Indian mind, Belgium has traditionally been associated with mirrors and crystals of the finest quality. In recent times, diamonds have added glitter to our relationship. Today, diamonds account for more than 75% of the bilateral trade turnover. The other import products of Indian exports to Belgium include textiles and articles, engineering products, chemicals, agricultural products, stone, ceramic, glass, plastics and rubber. The main Belgian exports to India consist of precious stones and metals, engineering products, chemicals, plastics and rubber and textiles. The Indo-Luxembourg bilateral trade turnover is slightly above Euro 24 million. The main items of import by Luxembourg from India include man-made filaments, articles of iron and steel, machinery parts and appliances, precious stones and metals, carpets and other textile floor coverings. On the other hand, Luxembourg’s export to India include items such as machinery parts and appliances, plastics and plastic products, iron and steel articles, optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring items, aluminium and articles thereof etc. For more details and updates on the bilateral trade, EUROSTAT data or the website of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) www.dgciskol.nic.in may be consulted.
