Swine Flu Advisory for visitors to India

  • Health screening of passengers travelling to India from H1N1 affected countries is continuing at 19 airports to Ahemadabad, Amritsar, Bangalore, Calicut, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Srinagar, Trichy and Varanasi.
  • All incoming passengers from affected countries are being subjected to medical screening, and in case of detection of symptoms connected with swine flu, such passengers may be quarantined and hospitalized.

Travel advice: Swine Flu influenza virus (H1N1) is causing an epidemic among humans and has spread to neighboring Unites States and Canada . Some suspected cases are being reported from other countries across the world. Necessary medicines are available and measures are being taken to limit the entry/spread of this disease in India .

Government of India advises all its citizens to defer from non essential travel to the affected countries. The list of the affected countries is constantly being updated on the website www.who.int and www.mohfw.nic.in

Appeal: People who have travelled from Mexico , US and Canada in the past 10 days and show symptoms of influenza like cold, cough or sore throat or difficulty in breathing should immediately contact Outbreak monitoring cell, National Institute of Communicable Diseases or call 011-23921401 .

Symptoms: They include fever, cough, cold, sore throat, diarrhea, vomiting and difficulty in breathing. If you detect such cases in your family or neighborhoods with history of travelling to the affected areas in the last 10 days, immediately contact above address.
Protection Suggestions:

Cover your mouth and nose with a handkerchief or tissue while coughing or sneezing. Shake hands, hug and kiss socially, or use other contact greetings.
Wash your hands with soap and water frequently, before and after touching your nose, eyes or mouth. Take medicines without consulting a physician.
Avoided crowded places.
Keep an arms distance from people affected with influenza like symptoms like cough, running nose, sneezing and fever.
Sleep well, stay physically active and effectively manage stress.
Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious food
