IRSDC, under the aegis of the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, is fulfilling the promises of building railway stations at par with international standards and intends to organize an International Design Competition (IDC) for a comprehensive scheme for redevelopment of the following 3 (Three) railway stations in India:

1. Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh)

2. Nagpur (Maharashtra)

3. Baiyappanhalli–Bengaluru (Karnataka)

Terms and conditions for participation in the competition has been

relaxed to encourage young practices to participate in the competition:

1. The last date for registration and submission of entries has been extended up to 12th January, 2018.

2. The requirement of Real Estate Expert, Railway Expert and Environment Experts have been made optional. However, the teams are expected to meet requirements of the Design Brief.

3. Category-I (Consultants) teams winning Stage-I will be directly eligible to be empaneled as Category-C Consultant.

4. Teams with architects not registered with Council of Architects (CoA) can still participate with the condition that they either meet the conditions before Stage-2 jury or replace the architect with one who meets the criteria.

Indian Railways (IR) owns and manages one of the largest Railway networks of the world with over 64,000 route kilometers and 7,000 stations. Operations of the IR are overseen by Ministry of Railways (MoR), Government of India and 16 Zonal Railways headed by General Managers.

Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Limited (IRSDC), is a special purpose vehicle and a joint venture company of IRCON International Limited (IRCON) (A Govt. of India Undertaking, under MoR) and Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) (a statutory authority under the MoR). IRSDC has been mandated to develop/ re-develop the existing/ new railway station(s) in India at par with international standards so as to serve the need of passengers.

All 400 stations on the IR network are to be upgraded on principles of ‘Transit Oriented Development’. IRSDC invites consulting organizations with multi-disciplinary experts across the globe to get themselves empaneled with IRSDC for preparation of "Station Development Plans".

Station Development Plans shall include, amongst other features, passenger, traffic and engineering surveys, integrated traffic plan, circulation plan, land plans, master plan for the Station, including architectural concept plan and design of structures, project facilities in conformity with Terms of Reference (ToR) for respective stations.
